ABSENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER: A Love Sonnet without rhyme but reason.

I woke up this morning and wondered if it was worth it to be apart! Then thought of course it is. And she was downstairs sewing. Think about it, time-wise we are mostly apart, sometimes nearer than other times, farther than we like. We spend a third our lives together/apart asleep together. Other times we are busy taking care of stuff, stuff we sorta must. So what is the true definition of apart we’re working with here? Is it time, space, distance or perhaps the fifth dimension of Love.

So is there some mysteriously strong glue given to bond us when apart? Answer, the same glue that bonds us together - warm, empathetic, conditional love, binds us together. It binds the  heavens and the earth. The sun and the moon are glued, The glue of creation binds all: the trees and animals and nature and all things in harmony. And it binds our souls. Let’s say Love is that glue. Love is invisible. Love is invincible. “Love is what makes the world go round.”Cling to it in all ways.

A hug, a kiss, a handhold stroll are wonderful, but there is nothing more binding than that which binds soul to soul - LOVE.

And what of love’s close companion memory. What buffered role does memory play when love is stretched apart - I shudder at the beauty of it all. I am thankful for my gifts and thankful for Love. Memory is the glowing embers.

The Roman poet, Sextus Aurelius Propertius, wrote in 15 BC, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” These words have withstood the test of time. Why? Because it holds a truth of Love. Trust Love. Let it into your heart.

Although modern times have tried to ignore that the heart as central to the love between two people. It is but a bleak concept that challenges the very glue of human existence. I’m going with Sextus and the jillions since that have recognized that near or far, “If it was meant to be, it will be.”

So my advice to young and old, stay true to your heart and your soul. Explore the nature of Love no matter how near or far. Human nature depends on LOVE. Hold onto it. Always! Always say “I Love You.”

And “Thank You.”

Love is not goodbye but till we meet again.”
